About World of Catan
The World of Catan is dedicated to Klaus Teuber's Game of the Year The Settlers of Catan! When you register in the forums, you are joining a community of avid Catan fans. Everyone here is a volunteer and no profit (or even donation) 
is taken to support this site. The site is here to bring together the English-language Catan community so we can discuss, report, reflect, and create. Your proud administrator, Derek Whaley (popularly known online as Darius von Whaleyland, Great Khan of the Barbarian Horde), is no passive Settlers fan. He has owned Catan since 2004 and played dozens, if not hundreds, of sessions.
The idea for this site arose around 2006. At that time, Derek attempted to create a Catan-themed Wiki at editthis.info. Sadly, the administrators ceased allowing images to be uploaded, so the venture ended. Two years later, he secured catan.wikia.com, the Wiki link you now see at the top of this page, as a database for everything Catan. Unfortunately, business arose and the wiki site was abandoned for nearly a year. During this time, Derek became active at CarcassonneCentral, a community for Hans im Gluck's Carcassonne board game, and a new idea arose. With encouragement from Gantry Rogue and meepleater
, Derek decided to purchase worldofcatan.com, linking his old wiki site to this new partner site of CarcassonneCentral. Thus here it is, a work-in-progress but something more solid than any half-finished wiki page.
We invite you, the Catan community, to participate in this grand venture by discussing the game, strategizing, sharing ideas for expansions and variants, and interacting with other Catan fans. Feel free to use this site as you see fit. The links atop this page are filled with official and unofficial rules, expansions, variants, and other resources for your use.
